Fruita Fat Tire Festival 2009 Day 1

The 2009 Fruita Fat Tire Festival was 2 weekends ago. Although in the past I've been out there to race on the same weekend, I never took part in the Festival. This year Yeti from UpaDowna twisted my arm and got me to go. Ok, maybe he didn't have to do any arm twisting.

Unfortunately I came down with a cold on Tuesday. By Thursday I was feeling well enough that I thought I'd get some good riding in on Friday.

Friday morning we went by the expo area but didn't stay long because the kids wanted to go ride. We went out to the Kokopelli Trailhead. I hooked up the trail-a-bike for 4 year old C and 6 year old D went on her bike.

We started riding Mary's loop since I think of the first part as being easy. It was soon clear it wasn't easy enough. C said it was too bumpy on the trail-a-bike and D was off pushing too much.

We switched to Rustlers Loop. C still thought it was too bumpy. She got off and wasn't getting back on. My wife ended up taking her back to the car.

D wanted to keep riding for a little while. She ended up doing the whole 3.6 mile loop and walked very little. It was her first true mountain bike ride.

I was wiped out from being sick so instead of riding more and checking out cool stuff at the expo, I ended up going and taking a nap. We did go back down for the party in the evening and here was a good band playing. We didn't stay very long since the kids were tired and I still wasn't very energetic myself.
