Rob, thanks for the coverage and Pix! I've used some of them in the TBV report -- let me know if this is a problem.
TBV
Hey Rob,
Was the crowd supportive of Floyd, or did they Boo?
Lou
The crowd was very supportive and Floyd was very generous with his time after the race by staying, talking and standing for pictures
Thanks, looking forward to seeing more pics. I used some on my blog... Hope ok. Yes I gave you credit & linked to your blog. thks. cheers.
Lou,
There was a crowd in fron of Landis before the start. They had stretched snow fencing across which they've never done before. Landis was very nice and calmly signed autographs up until a couple minutes before start and the organizer made everybody get out of the way. I didn't hear anything negative about him.
Out on the course while Wiens and Landis were together, there was a lot of people really rooting for Dave to win. There never was any sense of anything negative toward Landis. It just was that Dave has won the last 4 years. He's from Colorado and has been part of the mountain bike race community for as long as I can remember.
At the finish, I think pretty much everybody was happy Dave had won but there was also a lot of cheering as Landis came up to the line.
In looking at your pictures - especially the one of Landis crossing the water - it appears that Floyd was wearing road shoes and using Speedplay X1/Zero pedals. Did you, or anyone one around you, also notice this? Seems like a crazy choice for a 100 mile off-road event.
Only curious!
I built Floyd's race bike and originally he had xtr pedals but he must have switched them at the race. Some other technical nuggets for this bike are the LX front der, generic Easton aluminum stem with no grade such as ea50 or ea70 leading me to believe it is probably an ea30, and the Bontrager Select aluminum riser bar. Why did Floyd ride these parts? That was all we had in stock at the shop I work at that we could get on zero notice. Something happened to his original bike and we had to put this together and overnight it to him just a couple of days before the race.
Jeremy,
I was too focused on taking pictures to notice the road shoes. Even walking across the plank at the creek crossing, they didn't seem to be problem. I didn't hear anybody around me during the race say anything about the shoes either but people have discussing it on the LT100 list since then.
Daniel,
Thanks for the info about the bike. Are you able to reveal what happened to his bike?
I don't know what happened to his other bike, sorry.
Rob,
Thank you for sharing! Great photographs. They will remain on my blogspot for others to see forever.
