Vasque's exclusive Vibram Frontier sole is the cherry on top of this wonderful backpacking boot. The toe off pad offers unbeatable traction and durability. Combo lugs with 90 degree edges deliver superior traction whether you're hiking uphill or downhill, and there are inset spikes that prevent mud and debris from building up on your sole. Vibram's XSTrek under your instep balances slip resistance with high abrasion resistance for a durable sole that won't slip when you walk across wet stones. The arch also has a 90 degree heel breast that boosts stopping power when you get too much speed walking down steep hills. Plus, concentrated lugs in the heel help increase traction and durability.
