Speedplay Zero Aero Stainless Track Sprint Special Pedal

Speedplay adapts its aerodynamic road pedals to the track by making one key tweak: increasing the release tension. As a result, the Zero Aero Stainless Track Sprint Special Pedal is the polar opposite of Speedplay's new Ultra Light Action pedal. While the latter makes clipping in easier, the former makes accidentally clipping out virtually impossible a desirable trait in a discipline that often sees athletes pulling slivers or worse out of their arms and legs after mishaps caused by untimely disengagement in the middle of an event. The addition of Speedplay's aerodynamic pedal and cleat profile is another benefit for track cycling. Since left hand turns and fellow competitors are the only deterrents to obstacle free cycling in the velodrome, aerodynamics play an arguably larger role than they would on the road. Given this importance, it's only fitting that Speedplay applies its aerodynamic acumen to the track specific model. This includes a reduced frontal area, a streamlined profile, and the kind of dimpling that we've already seen employed to revolutionize the wheelset industry. The dimpling extends to the cleat, which is housed in a walkable, rubberized shell that's contoured to create a seamless transition from pedal to cleat, denying the wind a foothold on any pronounced transitional ridges. The Track Sprint Special's low stack height has a cornering clearance of 37 degrees, which helps with pedaling through banked corners, and Speedplay's standard 15 degree range of adjustable float and independently adjustable foreaft, side to side, and rotational positions carry over from the road specific model.
