If mud is on the menu for your next cyclocross race, look no further than the proven Clement PDX Tubular tire. Clement has been perfecting the PDX's tread for years, and when smartly wrapped around a durable casing, it becomes the weapon of choice for seasoned 'crossers who don't want to get bogged down. With taller, more widely spaced knobs than Clement's revered, all conditions MXP, the PDX has its focus on looser, wetter courses it is, after all, named after the city of Portland, Oregon, with its avid cyclocross culture and notoriously nasty course conditions. The semi connected center rib provides just enough of a rudder in the mud to keep things straight, while also keeping rolling resistance relatively low when you hit the pavement or hardpack. Move to the shoulder, and the siped, square edged knobs bite aggressively, both in the turns and when the tire sinks into softer earth. The PDX's low 370g weight can be attributed to the casing's lack of a dedicated inner tube layer the casing itself is instead airtight, which keeps the tire light and keeps ride quality smooth. Fear not for durability, however, because the PDX's sidewalls are not only reinforced, but coated in the same layer of rubber from which the tread is cast, meaning there's a uniform jacket of rubber hugging the entire exposed portion of the tire, further protecting sidewalls and keeping the tread from peeling away from the casing. Just in case the worst happens, the tire's valve cores are also removable so you can repair it via liquid sealant.
