The rear derailleurs uses an external battery with fully sealed, waterproof components. This stuff is pro tested, so it's been through the worst the elements have to offer and has stood up to the ultimate tests. The battery is good for about 100 hours of riding, depending on use, and they charge pretty quickly. Pairing the derailleur to the shifters is a simple procedure that takes less than 5 minutes.
