It's winter, it's cold, and you're putting in base miles. In situations like this, where just getting out in the elements can feel like a heroic triumph, comfort on long rides is crucial. The Italians at Sportful know this is true, which is why it manufactures its Total Comfort Bib Tights in Italy. Something as important as comfort in cold weather cycling can't be left in the hands of just anyone. The aptly named Total Comfort Bibs use the same materials in the same places as Sportful's top end models. The front of the tights consists of ThermoDrytex Double fabric. The outer face of this fabric is nylon with a water resistant finish the inside is lined with fleece made with hollow core yarn. The key to ThermoDrytex Plus's wicking and insulating is found in the center of the yarn or rather, it's not found there. The yarn's hollow core traps warm air and wicks moisture away from your body, regulating your temperature and keeping you dry, which in turn keeps you out riding. Certain areas of the front are strategically double layered to give you extra warmth and wind resistance where you need it. The back of the Total Comfort Bib Tights is ThermoDrytex Plus brushed fleece fabric, which offers less protection than the Double but more flexibility. Since the rear isn't leading into the wind, Sportful used a material that offers more flexibility and a bit of ventilation, just in case you start to overheat. The tights boast a Total Comfort chamois, which has a variable geography of dimpled foam thicknesses to conform, support, and transfer moisture. The extra padding of the Total Comfort chamois is thickest under your sit bones, moving from 18 millimeters in the rear to 13 millimeters in the front. This is meant to accommodate riders who have a more upright, comfortable geometry. It's also ideal for low intensity base miles. The edges of the chamois are pressed to zero. This translates directly to no chafing, a feature that riders who have spent a rough two weeks...
