When summer draws to a close and cold weather becomes the norm, we, like many of you, get giddy with anticipation for 'cross season. And while thick, sticky mud is part of the game, many of us, especially out West, are typically graced with drier conditions. For those days when full on mud tires are just too slow, the Schwalbe Racing Ralph HT Tubular Cyclocross tire fits the bill perfectly. Based on the wildly successful Racing Ralph mountain bike tire, this version features the same tightly spaced center knobs, paired with aggressive cornering knobs. In other words, this is one of the most versatile medium conditions tires around. The Racing Ralph has become a tried and true favorite due to their fast rolling tread pattern, and the latest revision only improves on the classic. The centerline of the tire features low, tightly spaced knobs knobs which provide excellent traction, and true to their name, the tightly spaced knobs help the Racing Ralph roll blisteringly fast. The side knobs are wide and supportive, so they'll bite hard to keep you from washing out when you're leaned over. But tread patterns only tell part of the story. That's why Schwalbe uses its PaceStar rubber compounding, which places harder rubber down the centerline, for faster rolling and improved wear life. And the side knobs get a softer rubber compound. In essence, you get the speed of a harder compound tire, mated to the cornering grip of a softer tire. That means that you don't have to sacrifice wear life for traction. This tread pattern is then hand sewn to Schwalbe's Evo tubular casing. This synthetic casing went through two years of development, and a handful of different manufacturing facilities before Schwalbe settled on this particular variant. Because it uses synthetic fibers for the casing, and a Latex coating, it keeps the tire watertight, which is especially important for maximizing its lifespan come 'cross season. All you have to do is enjoy lower tire pressure, fewer pinch flat...
