The past few years have seen a decrease in the popularity of triple chainring cranksets on mountain bikes. But, for those who yearn for a wide gear range and flawless shifts, SRAM made the X0 3x10 S1 Direct Mount Front Derailleur. So, you're able to run a triple chainring drivetrain on bikes that require the use of a S1 low direct mount front derailleur. The X0 front derailleur utilizes SRAM's direct 1:1 actuation ratio for precise shifting. Essentially, this means that the derailleur cage moves the same distance as the amount of cable that's being pulled during a shift. So, what's the benefit Well, this ratio provides you with powerful shifts, without expending much energy. And since precision is the name of the game when it comes to shifting, the X0's steel cage minimizes flex. In turn, this ensures that your shifts are crisp, not lagging. And speaking of shifting, the X0 front derailleur is designed in conjunction with SRAM's X Glide shifting. While the ramps on traditional chainrings are oriented to pick up the chain from the middle of the link, the X Glide system picks up the chain from the pins. SRAM claims that this doubles the opportunities for up shifting, while also providing nearly instant gear shifts. And when you add in the smaller derailleur cage, as compared to the X9 front derailleur, the X0 front derailleur keeps your chain in better control. The SRAM X0 3x10 S1 Direct Mount Front Derailleur is only intended for use with triple chainring cranksets, and it requires the use of an S1 low direct derailleur mount. Please note that this front derailleur is only intended for use with SRAM 1:1 shifters, as well.
