As ironic as it sounds, it's rare that a helmet maker will focus solely on safety in its marketing and design. POC stands proudly behind its helmet testing, and the Octal AVIP includes some just in case features that any cyclist will appreciate. First and foremost, the helmet wraps around the head, rather than sitting on top of it, which provides protection for the temples, as well as the rear of the skull. It also features reflective elements to improve your visibility if you happen to get caught out at dusk, and an ICE in case of emergency tag to help first responders contact loved ones if necessary. All those features wouldn't mean much if it weren't a comfortable helmet, though, and the Octal's massive vents ensure airflow is never a problem. Same goes for weight at just under 250 grams, the Octal may not breathe the rarefied air of the ultralights, but it's well within the ballpark, and given POC's dedication to safety, we're unlikely to lift our nose at those extra 50 grams.
