Aware it had a popular, well loved group of wheelsets with its Trail line, Industry Nine took on the task of refining its design to develop a slightly new offering for this year. The Trail 245 29in Wheelset features a few key changes from its predecessors but retains the same defining construction methods and careful attention to detail that has earned the master machinists at Industry Nine such a devout following. The Trail 245's are built to blast through technical terrain and rough spots while relying on Industry Nine's commendable hub design to remain responsive and nimble when you need them to be. Industry Nine set out to create a wheelset that was even more solid and dependable than before, so it started by making subtle changes to the rim width and bead walls, creating what it termed its Second Generation Tubeless profile. The internal rim width was extended to 24. 5mm, while the bead seats were widened and the bead walls shortened to create a more flared shape that would improve the tires' flat resistance when riding them at low pressures. This shape better accommodates ever growing tires, and when paired with rims that have been reinforced at points that are especially vulnerable in impacts, the wheels' dent resistance and overall strength are improved dramatically. The new Trail 245 rims are laced to Torch hubs with I9's signature, machined, 7075 T6 aluminum spokes. This distinctive construction choice eliminates weakness at the thread and allows for increased surface area for a stronger interface overall. The hubs themselves rely on Industry Nine's impressive proprietary pawl design, which features two sets of three pawls phased three degrees from each other to provide 120 points of contact and a snappy three degrees of engagement. The rear hub was tested to withstand an excessive 700ftlb of torque roughly what a diesel truck produces which should put any thoughts of slippage or power loss on rocky, technical cruxes firmly out of your mind.
