The Ibis 941 Carbon Fiber 29in Wheelset is wide. Like, really wide. So wide, in fact, that a few years ago, it would have been nearly double the width of the popular rims of the time. So wide that it'll make your tires wider by a tenth or two of an inch. In a world where tire performance is dramatically different between a 2. 2 and 2. 4in tire, this isn't exactly small potatoes. Ibis saw more and more folks running medium wide rims in the neighborhood of 25mm internal and thought, well, maybe even wider would be even better. They made a few prototypes and settled on an internal width of 35mm. At 35mm, most tires retain their general shape as it pertains to tread pattern, but also benefit from the wider base, which provides more support to the sidewalls, and adds volume exponentially. What's it mean on the trail Grip, and lots of it. That extra volume means a bigger contact patch, and the extra sidewall support means you can safely run lower pressures, which again increases the contact path. It won't turn your 29er into a fatbike, but you'll get a little taste of what extra rubber on the ground can do for anyone.
