Rainy days remind us of two things: a song from a certain classic musical where rain allegedly stays mostly on the Spanish plains and the old PVC rain capes that used to haunt the peloton like so many ill fitting, non ventilated, wind flapping ghosts. While the Competitive office is split about the merits of Hepburn singing, we all agree that those PVC specters should be exorcised from any cycling wardrobe, especially since Hincapie Sportswear has provided a more than capable replacement in the Pacific Rain Shell Men's Jacket. Hincapie's previous iterations of the Pacific Rain Shell Jacket have used CrystalDry material because it works really well. Unlike the PVC of yesteryear's rain capes, CrystalDry is lightweight, flexible, and most importantly breathable because it's a micro pierced membrane. Despite its breathability, the material is waterproof. Quantum Mesh panels at the collar and underarms further increase breathability in the areas where you'll appreciate it the most. The full length front zipper, so often the culprit in breaches of rain security, is reinforced with an anti weather placket. The zipper is a two way model, so you can vent from below so the jacket flaps less in the wind. To keep the storm out of your jacket, the wrists and waist are gathered with a thin elastic band. The jacket has been given a reflective treatment to help keep you visible in low light conditions, and the translucence of CrystalDry means that colors and numbers underneath it will still be visible.
