As trail builders created incredible singletrack littered with roots, sawtooth rock gardens, and menacing technical climbs riders begged for a better way to negotiate the increasingly aggressive terrain without sacrificing speed and agility. Enter 29a wheels and tires. A 29a tire travels further for every crank rotation than a 26a or 27.5a tire. A 29a tire also creates a wider angle when rolling over obstacles than a 26a or 27.5a tire. This means the tire sacrifices less speed when it makes contact with the obstacle because it is rolling forward over it instead of deflecting up and into the obstacle, as with a smaller tire. This allows the riders to roll up and over an obstacle while carrying more speed forward, sacrificing less speed at the point of contact with the obstacle.
