It may not exhibit Assos' penchant for grandiose excess like the line topping SS. rally jersey, but the SS. capeedpicXCJersey does bring the brand's meticulous attention to fit and finishing details to a price that's more reasonable on a pennies per mile basis. The Lady version is similar to the men's but dialed with a women specific cut, and it represents something of a collaboration between Assos and the race from which the jersey takes its name. It's built to handle the duress of that race, but it lacks the armadillo esque back armor and convoluted construction of the SS. rally. Instead, the SS. capeepic is composed almost entirely of Assos' Type. 197 material, which is the classic example we all think of when we think of cycling jerseys: lightweight, breathable, and slightly textured to encourage moisture wicking. While it's technically an off road jersey, the SS. capeepic is just as at home serving as a club fit road jersey. At the side panels, Assos interrupts the Type. 197 parade with a strip of what may be the finest mesh we've ever seen on a cycling jersey. Where the mesh on the back panel of the SS. rally feels more like breathable armor, the SS. capeepic's mesh is the closest thing to naked that we'd take on a trail ride. Though it doesn't extend all the way up to the armhole, it's worth noting that this stuff is transparent, so we recommend a base layer, an extended sports bra, or a coat of sunscreen underneath.
